Last night I went to the (potentially boring) launch of the Sydney Festival program. We were invited because we are a key parts of the arts community in Sydney. OK, really, Karen won free tickets.
It was at Sydney Opera House and we got free champers as we arrived. Nice.
Then we went into the concert hall and were seated. I sighed and thought we'd have an hour of speeches. Then we were treated by Kev Karody and Emma Donovan singing From Little Things Big Things Grow - one of my favourite songs. I was happy.
Watch a cool version here;
From Little Things, Big Things Grow by Kev, Paul Kelly and John ButlerAfter that we had an intro from the Aboriginal Land Council who controversially said "Our motto is "This is our land - always was, always will be"
Then Clover Moore, the Mayor and Sydney State Government rep. She's nice!
Then Frank Sator, the old Mayor....
Then the program director who told us about the program. Pretty cool. Some big stuff, and lots of free events. A really big launch night where the city is going to go crazy, including weddings on Macquarie St.
My highlights;
* Black Watch - scottish theatre.
* Spiegeltent - funky dance.
* Salsa in Hyde Park.
* Paul Kelly and Missy Higgins.
