Check out Column 8 today.
From the SMH;
"Mary Walters, of Wahroonga, takes exception to Frank Sartor's claim that renaming the Hungry Mile as Barangaroo is "the first significant place named after a female Aboriginal person". The Herald pointed out yesterday that Narrabeen was named after a female Aborigine some time ago, but Mary goes into detail: "Narrabeen was the daughter of Yawal, and she is remembered for warning the authorities in the early 19th century that a gang led by the escaped convict 'Big Mick' was going to lead an uprising that would threaten the family of a Captain Reynolds. She alerted the powers that be, but alas, it was too late, and the Reynoldses were killed."
