I'm sure you've heard about the Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami that hit Asia this week. Sri Lanka seems to be one of the hardest hit areas with an estimated 10,000 dead. If you'd like to do something to help the devastated areas, here are some URLs.
This email is from a friend of mine in Sri Lanka. It's not a fake or a phony and I personally vouch for its credibility. The PayPal account is for quick donations to a Non-Profit org with moneys going directly to victims and their needs. Luckily our friend Mangala survived, but we're still waiting to hear back about another friend of ours. We're keeping our fingers crossed and positive vibes for him and his family.
I can also provide you with a physical address if you want to send packages. They are most in need of medicine, dry food and drinking water, although I suspect they won't turn down other offerings like clothing and any sort of sustenance.

Dear All,
First of all thank you very much for all of those, who were concerned and sent the emails and left VMs. I realized the value of this life and the loved ones. I am still in shock and disbelief. Unbelievable, seeing fathers who lost their sons. I can not stop my tears with my own son sitting softly next to me. I am so lucky that we cancelled our last minute camping trip to the beach that was hit hardest and first (south-east Sri Lanka). Instead we went camping in North-West due to the rains. Thank god for the rain in my case. Every one who went to that camp site is dead. My Mom starts to cry every time when some one mentions that I was going to go there... Also all my family and close relatives and friends are safe.
Well two thirds of the coast line is hit hard and every 1 in 20 people are homeless our of 20 million people in this Island. Just speechless. A train was found with about 1000 bodies in it. One village is gone with 1500 villages. There are so many parents without their kids, kids without parents. I am still in shock.
However we are setting aside our emotions and trying to help the victims. We need medicine, dry food, and on top of all drinking water in short term. Long term we are planning to help the homeless. There is no concept if insurance among these poor folks. They have lost everything. I do not need to go on as you may have seen in the news as Sri Lanka is the worst hit and the death toll is over 12,000 and still rising. There is lot more we can do to help them.
If you are willing to help us to help please make whatever your donations by going to www.karunalanka.org, a NGO that we are actively involved (Sponsored by Calcey and our other family businesses). All of your donations will go directly to the victims and all the administration costs will be born by us. Also you can donate via Paypal (to [email protected]).

Also there is another organization setup by mostly Sri Lankans in US to help us: http://www.uslankan.com
Will keep, everyone who is interested, posted. Also please do not hesitate to forward this to any one is is interested.
Thank You
