Volleyball Finals

Well, it's that time of year again. Time when the best in Beach Volleyball come together to play at the highest level. When I say 'the best' I mean B grade Monday night social comp at Dee Why Sportz Courtz. And when I say 'play at the highest level' I mean try as much as you can get the ball back over the net without injuring yourself, injuring others or sending the ball into the creek down the back...

Up Tempo have made the finals in their first year and despite injuries of the ankle and of the heart, we will field our team of three up against four opponents. If we win the first game first fourth spot (we came third) then we play again 30 minutes later against the loser of first and second. If we win that game we go on to Sunday for the finals. All welcome for that!

The team includes Left Hook Luanne, Nailed Serve Nathan and Sandy Mick.

Inessa McElligott - Spunkrat or Just a Spunk?

Rumours are abounding around Sydney regarding the controversial question - Is Inessa McElligott a full on, dead set, fair dinkum spunkrat, or is she just a run of the mill spunk.

After conducting an informal poll of locals (n=1,393,459) 96% of them said "Yes, definitely a spunk rat", 3% said "Yes, but spunkrat doesn't go far enough" and 1% said "I no speaka la engrish".

This confirms what many of us here at Binary have believed for quite a while and hopefully puts to bed this long time debate.

Here is a picture of my bro and a big, hairy spider.... Very spooky. He lives on a farm up near Byron Bay and obviously enjoys nature at its fullest. He said that he is quite used to spiders like these and in fact on Sundays they have a BBQ where crispy spiders are on the menu along with;
* Snake kebabs.
* Possum burgers.
* Salt and Pepper Scorpion
* Sweet Chilli Swamp eel.

So adventurous.

Hey Hey 16k - the Video

This video may give you an insight into my childhood and perhaps some inkling into why I'm a bit geeky now. It all goes back to that day we got the Commodore 64. Or maybe it was before that? It might have been my parents forking out for one of those little consoles that let you play Pong (you know, where you control little paddles and sort of play tennis/squash. Very simple, but hours of fun.

Some time after that we got the Commodore 64. You had to load the games by a cassette tape - pretty amazing. We had a couple of games but we also got some books about how to programme games yourself. We made a couple of programs - including a balloon navigation game, and a version of Blankety Blanks. Mum and Dad even programmed a horse racing game. I remember that they programmed it (from a book) and Wayne and I realised that one horse always won (I think it was the red one (which reminds me of "One One was one race horse, Two Two was one too. One One won one race. Two Two won one too." - funny)) So we told mum and dad that we bet them we know which horse wins the race and they said OK, sure. We had the race and the Red Horse won. What we didn't know was that Mum and Dad had fixed the bug and all the horses had even chances of winning, but luck came through for us. :)

Anyway, I remember having books in which computer chips were shown as alien bugs crawling across a moon surface. That's were I learned about ROM/RAM, etc.

This is a quick progam and the funny thing was that I had to add a line 5 into it after starting - that's the programming way!

Side point - I remember getting the Commodore 64 and turning it on for the first time with Cus (Glendyn Ivan) saying "It is computating" in a crazy voice....

Plus - we had catridges as well - Wizards of War!!! :)

I also remember when we eventually got a disc drive. Dad got a cheap compatible one and it didn't play Hardball in it. We knew it was the drive because the game worked at Danny Dybing's place across the road. Hardball was great - a really cool baseball game.

Remember Pitfall - we must of played that for days!!!!

Disney Has Blocked the Distribution of My New Film... by Michael Moore

Friends,

I would have hoped by now that I would be able to put my work out to the public without having to experience the profound censorship obstacles I often seem to encounter.

Yesterday I was told that Disney, the studio that owns Miramax, has officially decided to prohibit our producer, Miramax, from distributing my new film, "Fahrenheit 911." The reason? According to today's (May 5) New York Times, it might "endanger" millions of dollars of tax breaks Disney receives from the state of Florida because the film will "anger" the Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush. The story is on page one of the Times and you can read it here (Disney Forbidding Distribution of Film That Criticizes Bush ).

The whole story behind this (and other attempts) to kill our movie will be told in more detail as the days and weeks go on. For nearly a year, this struggle has been a lesson in just how difficult it is in this country to create a piece of art that might upset those in charge (well, OK, sorry -- it WILL upset them...big time. Did I mention it's a comedy?). All I can say is, thank God for Harvey Weinstein and Miramax who have stood by me during the entire production of this movie.

There is much more to tell, but right now I am in the lab working on the print to take to the Cannes Film Festival next week (we have been chosen as one of the 18 films in competition). I will tell you this: Some people may be afraid of this movie because of what it will show. But there's nothing they can do about it now because it's done, it's awesome, and if I have anything to say about it, you'll see it this summer -- because, after all, it is a free country.

Apple Juice Splat

I'm eating an apple at work right now (I'm holding it in my mouth). It is very juicy. So juicy in fact that when I took a big bite it sprayed across my monitor (CRT) and splatted. It looked like something out of a horror movie when they don't show the killer blow, they just show the blood splat!

* You could fall and swallow the smoke, leading to internal burning. (heart burn directly!) * You could use up all the oxygen and suffocate us.
* You could drop the cigarette onto a fuse that lights a bomb that injures small children.
* You could fall over and swallow the pillow (For Wayne)

So many dangers.....
