One of the things that often gets missed when people are planning a business around a web application is that the long-tail is very very very large, takes a lot to fill and a lot more to make any serious money off it.
Someone this morning at Tangler was wowing about how WSJ gets $25 to $50 CPM.
"Wow, that's great".
Then you think that CPM means every 1,000 page views. 2.5c per view. Which means that to make an reasonable money, let's say $25,000 a month, you have to be doing a million page views. And that's a lot for a new web app.
